REVIEW ORAL PRESENTATION

This week we had to do an oral presentation about our research project, mine called ''The most influential bands of the 90's in the United Stes'', in the Englsih class. In the presentation we had to talk about how we did our project, where did we find the information that we used, what was the part that we had more trouble with, etc.
I think that I did it pretty well because, as I wasn't as nervous as other times, I've been more able to explain better what I was saying and look comfortable while doing it. Also, I included some songs and explained a little bit of their story so that people could be more interested in what I was saying.
Basically, I talked about why did I choose that specific topic; the methodolgy that I used, mainly magazines; the objectives that I wanted to achieve; the parts that I divided my project, explaining what I did in each one; conclusions, where I commented If I've reached my goals and all the things that I learnt.

DIALOGUE

SCENARIO: TWO GIRLS AFTER WATCHING A MOVIE IN THE CINEMA
CHARACTERS: LORENA, PAULA

LORENA: Wow! I was so shocked about the movie!

PAULA: Yeah I know right? How can they put botox on their body?!

LORENA: I think that it's not necessary wasting so much money in this kind of stuff to look beautiful.

PAULA: I agree, Instead of going through a bunch of expensive surgeries, you could start doing sport and eat more healthy.

LORENA: Think about the canons of beauty in previous centuries, they preferred a woman with curves and a pale face and now people are obsessed with being skinny and tanned.

PAULA: That's true! People also waste a lot of money in X-rays to become tanned and that, eventually, can be harmful for us.

LORENA: Well, In fact I think we look hotter being natural than with all this surgeries. We don't want to look like some reality star...

PAULA: Yeah, I know right? I also prefer being natural and decide what I want to wear and how do I want to look without being pressured by strangers who don't even know me at all.

LORENA: You're right! Because all these adds and reality TV shows only show us some people who are too concerned about their body and this kind of things. We shouldn't follow what some stupid people say what's cool or not.

PAULA: The only thing that it causes is that we want to be like them and waste money in silly stuff.

LORENA: Yes, that's a big business!

PAULA: And also, this business release adds that make young people mainly to be insecure about themselves and that led them to want to change their appearance.

LORENA: I agree, I also think that It gives them phsychological issues and develope illness like anorexy and bulimia.

PAULA: Basically, nowadays they make business on everything but playing with our health... That's not good.
LORENA: I think the same.

PAULA: Well, It was nice talking about this and see that you have the same opinion. I'll call you, bye!

LORENA: Ok! See you later!

DOES HUMOUR PLAY AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN LIFE?

It is clear that everyone has laughed at some point of their life, but can you imagine a life without humour?
In my opinion, humour does play an important role in our lives, in fact, I think It's essential for us and It's also proved by scientists that laughter improves our health, making us feel less stressed, in a good mood and relaxed.
Many people find laughing a hard thing to do, however It's so easy to have a funny time, for example watching funny films, telling jokes and even do silly things with your friends.
I also believe that It helps you to be more comfortable around new people because If you meet someone who's cheerful and funny you'd feel more welcomed than with someone who's serious and in a bad mood.
To sum up, I think that we all have to be thankful that we have humour in our life because otherwise we will be almost like robots, boring and without feelings.

Why 30 is not the new 20

Meg Jay is a psychologist who gave a talk about how wrong are people about the concept that the 30s are the new 20s.
In this talk, she talks about things like work, studies and marriage, things that usually people used to do when the were in their 20s. But nowadays the thought we have about the 20s decade is seen as an irrelevant period of your life when you can be independent and don't worry about important stuff.
Resultat d'imatges de meg jayThat's why Meg Jay tries to explain that they're wrong about this, because it's in these years that we became the person we will be as an adult and decide how our future is going to be. Also, she says that It's much better make these decisions as earlier as possible because if you don't, you'll see everybody else settled and you'd want all the things that they've achieved but maybe you won't have time.

Personally, I agree with most of the things that she said, but Meg seems to make us believe that we only have to organize our future and make these importants decisions, when I think that It's not all about that because we're still young and we have to enjoy life and have fun.

The Pflasterspektakel

The Pflasterspektakel is an annual street art festival in Linz, the capital of Upper Austria. The inaugural festival took place from 16 to 19 July 1987, under the name of Internationale Straßenmusikantentage (International Street Musicians' Days). 150 musicians participate in the inauguration, most of them from Austria and Germany, including a samba group from Munich.

It was decided that the event should be repeated the following year, this time under the present name of Linz Pflasterspektakel and featuring acrobats, magicians and mimes in addition to the musicians.
It includes musical acts, juggling, acrobatics, pantomime, improvisational theatre, clownery, fire dancing, painting, samba parades. It takes place on three days during the second half of July. The opening ceremony is held on a Thursday at 4 p.m. and on the following Friday and Saturday, the festival starts at 2 p.m. At midnight the festival ends each day, but some musicians play in pubs until 1 a.m. By tradition, spontaneously formed groups of artists improvise a finale on Saturday evening on the main square.

Artists are performing at around forty locations throughout the city of Linz around the main square and the Landstraße. Two courtyards are reserved for musicians playing unplugged or a cappella. In case of rain, the event moves to the old city hall and other indoor locations.

In 2010, about 400 artists from over forty nations participated in the event.

E-MAIL TO MY TEACHER

Hello! I'm Paula Valenzuela Turró and I'm going to explain a few things about my life and who I am.
I was born the 21st of March 1999 in Figueres. I'm blonde and blue eyed just like my mother and everyone says that we look alike so much. I'm really shy around new people but once I get to know them I become very confident and friendly.
My parents are called Mercè and Facundo, he's Argentinian. Nowadays I live in Castelló d'Empúries with my mother and my stepfather because my parents got divorced when I was little but they still have a great relationship. I have two stepbrothers Florentina, who is 23 and lives in Argentina, and Mateo, who is almost 3.
I play basketball since I was 9 and at the moment I'm playing with the Club Bàsquet Castelló, my hometown team. We train twice a week and we have matches at the weekend.
I like to do sports, read, listen to music and hang out with my friends. I've read books like The Hunger Games or The Maze Runner but my favorite books are The Mortal Instruments saga. Lately I've been listening the pop-punk/ punk-rock genre and turns out that It has become my favorite genre of music. Maroon 5, 5 Seconds of Summer and Blink-182 are my all time favorite bands but other bands that I like a lot are Nirvana, Sum 41, Green Day, 30 Seconds to Mars, Fall Out Boy and Sleeping with Sirens.
I love to spend the winter days in my sofa with a blanket watching my favorite TV Shows, some movie or Youtube videos.
And that's pretty much all you have to know for know the most important things about me.

ORAL PRESENTATION

After seeing the video and my experience while doing it, I'm really proud and happy with the presentation. I really like the topic and I was excited and interested while searching information or stuff.

In general I think that we can say that we did a good presentation because we spoke quite fluently and the information was pretty clear.
Personally I think that I need to more confident and don't be nervous because at one moment I was blocked and I did a little pause. It's really hard for me to be confident infront of people but I think that I'm less nervous than other years because at least I wasn't shaking like the other times.

Rebel song

UNDERCLASS HERO-SUM 41

The song that I have chosen is Underclass Hero by the canadian punk-rock band Sum 41.
The song talks about the fight between the high-class and the underclass. In the song there are some rebellious sentences against the government, the law in general and they identify themselves as part of the underclass. They want to express that you don't have to act like everyones else and the others don't have to tell what is good or bad.
I've chosen this song because Sum 41 is one of my favorite bands and I think that the majority of teenagers can feel identified in this song because they express really well the idea of revolution.
